Our only Open House for Crop Over is going to be on August 01, 2009.

Location: Wanstead Terrace, St. James

Directions: 5th Ave Wanstead Terrace, Last House on the left before the bend.

Time: 12 noon- 2pm

In addition there are four other locations that items can be purchased before Saturday.

By popular demand, we have decided to have an Open House on Friday Aug 01st, Mau Pau restaurant, Hastings from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm.

We are trying to accommodate as much people as possible and as such we will also have our FINAL Open House on Saturday Aug 02nd, Mau Pau Restaurant Hastings from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm.

THE ESSENCE OF CROP-OVER "MORE THAN A CARNIVAL, SWEET FUH DAYS"

I have been reading many posts on the internet comparing Bajan Crop-Over to other Carnivals. Every Carnival is unique and special in its own way and should be appreciated for its own uniqueness.

Crop Over, which dates back to the 1780's when Barbados was one of the world's foremost sugar producers, commemorates the end of the sugar cane season with an exciting and vibrant extravaganza of music, masquerade, heritage and culture. Over the years, it has grown into a large festival with many people from all over the world visiting our beautiful shores to join in the fun and frolic.

The essence of Crop-Over is to be free and wild with wanton abandonment. Costumes are discarded within mere hours after jamming down the road. The jump is very fast-paced and hyped and the music is very up tempo. It is amazing how tired you are after just a couple hours on the road.

I grew up seeing my mom as a Carnival Queen for the Winston Jordan band. Glitzy boots and gorgeous make-up was a staple for her costume and I always admired how spectacular she looked on Kadooment Day. Over the years, I have always glammed up my costume and was always admired for it.



We here at Kadooment Divas are seeking to share our knowledge with the many masqueraders who have requested our help over the years. By creating a one stop shop, our aim is to assist our clients by enhancing the themes of their costumes through the medium of make-up and accessories.

So, when other people try to look down on smaller Carnivals and compare them to their own, remember that their own Carnival derived from something and they too took elements from other sources.

Please appreciate every culture for what it is and yours for what it is.
