THE INCREASING PRICE OF CROP OVER

Over the last three years, Crop Over has gotten more and more expensive. While it may seem as if prices are increasing everywhere, the reasons given for costume increases do not warrant such. One popular band leader stated that the price of feathers has increased since last year and another stated that VAT is now included in the costume prices. Here I was thinking that it was included all along since my costume receipt quotes VAT. Even so, if VAT is 15% of the costume price, why then would a VIP costume that cost $350 last year now cost $495 (15% =$52.50). Something has to be wrong with my mathematical skills aka CALCULATOR.

In 2006, costume prices ranged between $195-$250. In 2007, $250-$350 and this year prices have increased to as much as $495. So look out to pay more than $500 next year.

The prices of Crop Over fetes have also increased dramatically. The Trinidad All-inclusive phenomenon is becoming very popular and many fetes are now popping up under the guise of "All-Inclusive". Imagine paying all that money and only getting a Ham Cutter and a soft drink. Very interesting!!!

Some of this year's fete prices are as follows:
Wet Fete -$175
Envy- $200 early bird tickets
Booze Cruise- $175
Party Monarch Finals- $60
Baje fetes- $40
Lara- $300

At this rate, the average crop-over masquerader would have to start saving from now, get a Crop-Over loan or start a Crop-Over meeting turn.
